Choosing a Lift Table

by Ajay Arora

You’re finally tired of getting down on the ground to mess around with your motorcycle or car. That means it’s time to consider getting a lift table, and there are many types to choose from. You can go with hydraulic, air operated and electric over mechanical. So, how do you know which one is going to be best for your automation application?

Weight Lifting

The first thing you want to know is exactly how much weight you want to be able to lift with your lift table. Commonly, table lifts will be able to lift at least 1,000lbs. Many of the tables that can lift excessive amounts of weight are air and hydraulic operated, but electric tables today can do the same job. Electric over hydraulic systems are also the slowest working systems on the market.

Tables that can handle weights of 1,500lbs are usually air over hydraulic systems.

Hydraulic Lift Tables

Hydraulic tables have been widely used in the past, because they were the most reliable and affordable technology on the market. They are able to lift high amounts of weight, but the downside is that they usually have a number of components. Having a large number of components means more maintenance and a higher chance that you will have to replace a part.

Air Operated

Air operated tables will be able to lift your heaviest vehicles, but they will come at a hefty price. Again, the large number of components means a greater chance of maintenance and part replacement.

Electric over Mechanical Lift Tables

An electric table lift is the alternative to the last two options. Once the least common type of lift, they are becoming more affordable and the best option as time goes on. The benefit of an electric table lift is that you have smooth and consistent operation, and a lift that can quietly move up and down.

The smaller numbers of parts in an electric table lift means that less can go wrong with it. Additionally, there is no maintenance that needs to be performed with an electric table lift, except for a little cleaning once in a while.

If you’re thinking about buying a table lift, there are a number of options out there and choosing which one can be a bit overwhelming. Electric lifts may be the best way to go; they are quiet, smooth and affordable and can handle the loads that are needed to perform mechanics.  You can view table lift options http://www.progressiveautomations.com/actuators-table-lifts-c-51.aspx
