While it is recommended to take breaks and walk away (literally) from your work throughout the day, some people just don’t have the time to do that. That’s where a standing desk comes in, letting you stand and stretch your legs without leaving your desk and losing valuable work time.

A GINGER BREAD VILLAGE BROUGHT TO LIFE USING OUR ACTUATOR

Each year, we receive stories of creative innovations using our actuator products and the year 2018 saw some interesting inventions such as the Japanese style hidden table lift project, the flight simulator and the Barbershop success story. Lucky for us it didn’t stop there and 2018 ended on positive note for our customer in Seattle.

Volunteers from Seattle’s top architecture firms, Gelotte Hommas Drivdahl (GHD) Architecture and Master Builders Association together with Seattle Sheraton, Chef David Mestl & JDRF "Elf", Zane Alexander, designed a beautiful Gingerbread Castle which was displayed at the Sheraton Grand hotel, Seattle. Themed around the whimsical world of ‘How the Grinch stole Christmas’, the gingerbread village saw 5 stunning display of houses. The event was a fundraiser for the Northwest chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

While onlookers of all ages marveled at all the larger-than-life gingerbread creations, we were specially fascinated by the creative use of our actuator product. The Christmas tree in the Gingerbread castle was powered by our Progressive Automations actuator PA-09-30-300 and controlled by an Arduino Controller.

“The tree went on display in November and ran continuously through Christmas and New Year’s. The motor remained operational through the entire duration of the event and was a huge success,” said Michael Krause, Gelotte Hommas Drivdahl Architecture.

To combat this, the solution is to stand more during the day.

Set a reminder on your smart watch One of the fastest growing benefits is standing desks – desks that can convert from a seated position to a standing one. In the past 5 years, standing desks have seen a 44% increase in popularity in regards to the integration with workplace wellness programs.  This signifies that the use of standing desks is increasing steadily, and will soon be a common article of furniture at your workplace. Users of standing desks have agreed that having the options to sit or stand while continuing to work helps to add in the productivity benefits of standing desk use. With the rise in wearable techs, such as the Apple Watch, you may get reminders throughout the day to stand up, and with a standing desk, you won’t have to break concentration on the important project you’re currently working on.
