Solar Canada is the largest professional solar industry event in Canada. The annual event had been held in Ontario for years, but this year they decided to move to Calgary, Alberta for the first time in the event's history. Solar Canada focuses on innovations and policy changes throughout the solar industry. Every year it attracts thousands of people to the Convention Centre and while we did not have a booth this year, we made sure to go check it out as linear actuators are becoming more and more prevalent in the solar industry.

This year's event ran from June 20-21 at the BMO Centre in Calgary. On Wednesday evening at the pre-conference BBQ at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), we were shown the worlds first and only tracked solar carport – it was quite an impressive contraption. GPJoule, a leading company in the renewable energy sector, gave a very interesting demo on how exactly solar trackers work, demonstrating with one of their PHLEGON single-axis solar trackers.

The main event was filled with a variety of exciting exhibits and insightful learning sessions. One of the more entertaining parts of the event was the photovoltaic (PV) installation competition. It was a fierce battle between three participating installers, and Solar Farms ended up leaving with the top prize as chosen by the judges from SAIT.

We were thrilled to have been part of this great event and you can look forward to seeing us there again in 2019 – this time with a booth of our own! If you'd like to see more photos from the event, take a look at our album on Facebook.
