Description
PA-10 Specifications

The PA-10 waterproof electric linear actuator has a weather protection rating of IP68 M and IP69K, allowing the actuator to be fully submerged while in motion and can withstand high-powered water jets while not in motion. It features the highest IP rating amongst the Progressive Automations’ line of products. In combination with the PA-10’s compact size and high-force rating, it makes it excellent for marine, automotive, and agricultural applications.

For applications that require added corrosion resistance, the PA-10 is available in a Salt Spray rated version which features specialized porcelain plated housing. This has been vigorously tested for up to 400 hours of salt spray exposure, ensuring that it will perform in the harshest environments.

For more information on specifications, dimensional drawings, and customization options, please see the PA-10 datasheet. Please see the IP-Rating Guide for more information on these ratings.

MOUNTING OPTIONS:

The BRK-09 bracket, compatible with the PA-10, can be used on either the stroke or motor-end mounting locations and allows for over 180° rotation.

CONTROL SYSTEMS:

The PA-10 features a highly efficient drive system that requires very low power. At maximum load, it will draw less than 6.0A at 12VDC. This is a great power-saving feature for applications using batteries. It also makes the PA-10 easier to integrate into existing control systems, as well as the various control systems we have available.

FAQ
How Can I Determine Which Progressive Automations Linear Actuator is Best Suited for My Application?

Depending on your application, there are different specification requirements you should consider when determining the linear actuator you need. These requirements include force, stroke, speed and mounting dimensions. For detailed actuator information, you can refer to either the datasheet or the specification table located on the selected actuator's product page. You can also contact us to speak with one of our expert engineers.

What Is Duty Cycle and How Is It Calculated?

Duty cycle is the fraction of the working period in which a linear actuator can remain active. You can calculate the duty cycle of a linear actuator by using the following equation: Duty cycle (%) = (Time the linear actuator is active) / (Time for one working period)

For example: With a 25% duty cycle, an actuator can run for 5 minutes continuously before needing to rest for 15 minutes before operating.

What Does Stroke Mean? How Am I Supposed to Know Which Size to Choose?

Stroke is the travel distance of the extending rod. To find the stroke length you require, measure your application from the fully retracted position to the fully extended position. The difference will equal the stroke length you require.

How Do I Know Which Force Rating Is Right for My Application?

We always recommend purchasing an actuator with a higher force rating than what the application requires. If unsure of your force requirements, this article may help you calculate this: How to Calculate Force to Find the Right Linear Actuator

Can I Synchronize My Linear Actuators?

Yes, this is possible. However, it does depend on the units you are currently using. To synchronize actuators, they require a form of feedback such as a potentiometer or hall effect sensors. For more information, see below some of our key content regarding linear actuator synchronization.

How To Utilize FLTCON-2 & FLTCON-4 Control Boxes?

What Are the Control Box Options For My Actuator?

The control box you choose should be able to provide sufficient voltage and current rating to your actuator. If you are unsure of the specifications, please contact us.

Alternatively, you can also find compatible control boxes on your selected linear actuator's product page.

What Is Backdriving? -- What Does Dynamic and Static Load Ratings Mean? -- What Is Lateral Loading?
What Is Backdriving?

Backdriving is when an actuator starts sliding down under load, when it is either overloaded or when the actuator has been damaged. Watch the video.

What Does Dynamic and Static Load Ratings Mean?

Dynamic load rating is the amount of weight an actuator can pull or push safely when being powered. Static load rating is the amount of weight the actuator can hold or withstand without back driving when it is not being powered. For example, let's just say you have an actuator installed on a window and the static load rating of the actuator is 100lbs, it could experience backdriving when there is a high wind event, which means there will be more pressure exerted on the actuator which would exceed the 100lbs load rating of the actuator.

What Is Lateral Loading?

Lateral loading is when the actuator experiences forces from the lateral plane. Actuators are not meant to handle lateral forces at all so if it experiences any lateral forces, it will likely damage the actuator or bend the rod. So it's advised never to use lateral forces and always make sure the actuator is fully in line or in sync with your application, so it does not take any load other than the axial load. Watch the video.

Second order even better than the first

I had ordered one of these actuators and installed it with a limit switch. It did the job, but was not the perfect solution for my situation. I worked with Progressive Automations to customize this actuator to provide the exact stroke I needed. I ordered two and installed them. They work GREAT! I took a video when I completed the install. They work quieter and faster than the originals. Which I plan on replacing, so they all open and close together. Couldn't be happier with the support and product.

Hello Fred,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear that your second order exceeded expectations and that the customized actuators were the perfect solution for your project. It’s always our goal to provide products and support that meet our customers’ unique needs, and we’re so glad we could help.

The fact that they’re quieter and faster is fantastic feedback, and we love hearing how you plan to upgrade your originals so everything operates seamlessly together. If you have any other projects in mind or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’d also love to see that video you mentioned—feel free to share it with us! 😊

Best regards,
The Progressive Automations Team

Fast shipping / Works flawless

The motor arrived in Switzerland within ~3days with FedEx. it is smooth and powerful. I've installed in my solar panel tracking system to track the sun from east to west und north/south. let's hope it stays waterproof. I'll order a second motor as i trust this one much more than the original motors which were cheap.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your fantastic review! We're thrilled to hear that our product arrived quickly and is performing smoothly in your solar panel tracking system. It’s great to know that our PA-10 Linear Actuator is living up to your expectations.

We trust it will continue to perform flawlessly for you. If you need any assistance with your next order or have further feedback, feel free to reach out. Thanks again for your trust in our products!

Solid Quality

Although a little slower than presumed, yet speed is not in any way an issue to raise and lower a “buggy whip” aka fiberglass type pole with a flag on top to help heavy equipment see lighter chicles etc. The lP68M water prof rating is so far the answer to my last issue failed actuators for rain entering into motor and causing rust to ruin it

Hi Randy,

Thank you for your review! We're thrilled to hear that our Waterproof Linear Actuator has effectively addressed your concerns with rust and water ingress. We will take your feedback about the speed into consideration for future improvements. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out to us. We are always happy to help!

Best regards,

Very impressed!

Very impressed! I used two actuators to automate windows in our greenhouse via thermostat or manually by toggle switch. Their actuators and relay/base, all that was needed is imagination. Maybe a little $. Very satisfied, compact, strong and attractive actuators.

Hello David,

Thank you so much for such a positive review of our products. We're so glad that the Waterproof Linear Actuator has met your expectations for your window automation.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions or concerns in the future. Our team of technical product engineers or customer service representatives would be more than happy to assist you.

Happy New Year!
