Description
LC-241 Specifications

The LC-241 brushless DC motor controller allows for 100% duty cycle control of a brushless DC linear actuator. Using the control inputs, the user has full control over the speed and direction of a brushless DC actuator. Our PA-14 and PA-14P linear actuators can be customized to have a brushless DC motor to function with the LC-241 controller.

Using the screw terminals, connect the linear actuators to the control box. Apply 12-24VDC across the power wires and follow the control integration information which can be found in the LC-241 User Manual.

It is important to ensure that the power supply has a sufficient amperage rating to control the linear actuators. The LC-241 is designed to control a maximum 8A, 12-24VDC brushless DC linear actuator.

* Only compatible with customized PA-14 and PA-14P brushless motors (12 or 24 VDC). Not compatible with standard brushed motors.

How to Wire a 12 Volt Linear Actuator

Nathan Bong

The most common electrical linear actuator used in the industry today is the 12VDC version. The function of a linear actuator is quite simple; it moves an object in a linear motion. Depending on how the unit is wired, one can control it in many different ways. In this article, we will go over wiring a 12-volt linear actuator to a rocker switch and control box along with a basic understanding of how an actuator works.

FAQ
What types of actuators are compatible with the LC-241 controller and how do I order a compatible brushless model?

The LC-241 control box is designed for PA-14 and PA-14P brushless actuator compatibility. These actuators need to be custom-ordered for the PA-14 brushless customization.

How does the LC-241 allow for speed and direction control of a brushless linear actuator?

Actuator speed adjustments and directional actuator control are made possible by configuring the ports of the LC-241 according to the instructions of our user manual.

Speed Control Model: Open loop or closed loop control.

Speed Adjustment 1 (SPD2):

  • Internal potentiometer, reduce speed by rotating CCW and increase by rotating CW
  • Short circuit between “SPD” and “GND”

Speed Adjustment 2 (SPD):

  • Add a potentiometer between “SPD” and “GND”
  • Linear relationship between speed and voltage
  • Rotate internal potentiometer to MINIMUM in CCW direction

Start/Stop (RUN):

  • Short circuit between “RUN” and “GND”
  • Stop if open circuit

Reverse (REV):

  • Short circuit between "RUN", "REV" and "GND"
  • Stop if open circuit
What are the wiring requirements for connecting a brushless actuator to the LC-241, and how do I use the screw terminals?

Follow the LC-241 wiring diagram from the datasheet for full details on brushless actuator wiring. The wires are typically green, blue, and white, which will connect to the U, V, and W terminals, respectively. If the wires are different colors, connecting them in the wrong order will simply move the electric linear actuator in the opposite direction than intended. Use a screwdriver to ensure the brushless motor wires are tightly secured to the screw terminal connections.

What is the difference between brushed and brushless motor controllers and why is the LC-241 not compatible with brushed actuators?

Brushed DC motor controllers output consistent power and would reverse output polarities to switch travel direction, while a brushless DC motor controller like the LC-241 outputs power at the right timing to the different motor coils for motion. The actuator motor type differences between brushed vs brushless actuators and how they operate limit the LC-241 compatibility with brushless DC-motored actuators only.

What power supply specifications are required for safe operation of the LC-241 and what happens if current exceeds 8 A?

The LC-241 accepts 12–24VDC power input, so use a power supply and brushless actuator that have a matching voltage within this range and ensure current draw does not exceed 8A. Exceeding the 8A actuator current limit triggers the controller overload protection error code (LED flashes 1 time) and will stop operation.
